Wheelchair basket ball has proved to be a sport which can give disabled children immense happiness and independence. The sport enables children with even the severest disability to participate and play as part of a team.
The Richard Langhorn Trust became the Sponsors of the National Junior Games in 1997, and has been involved since then. As well as annual sponsorship of the event the RLT have bought personalised sports chairs for some promising young players, who, without the support of the Trust would not be able to take part in the sport.
In Partnership with the GBWBA
The RLT has now entered into a new partnership with the GBWBA, which will involve financing a set of second hand chairs which can be loaned to new clubs and teams who are just starting out in the sport. Once a club is properly established and has properly organised funding, the set of wheelchairs can be loaned to another club. This enables more and more young people the ability to try the sport.
The Richard Langhorn Trust has been instrumental in raising the profile for the sport through continued support of the Junior Championships and the National Development Programme.
